Emergency Guide: Troubleshooting UPS Beeping in the Office

This guide outlines steps to address a beeping UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) in the office. There are two critical UPS units to identify and troubleshoot:

UPS 1: Powers the Gateway and NVR.
UPS 2: Powers the main PoE switch.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting:

1. Identify the Source of the Beeping

Carefully listen to determine whether UPS 1 or UPS 2 is emitting the beeping sound. If BOTH UPS are beeping, skip to step 4
Each UPS will have indicators (lights or screen) that can help you confirm its status. If you notice a timer, that is the time remaining before the UPS runs out of battery and shuts itself off.

2. Inspect the Power Source

Check if the UPS is securely plugged into its outlet.
Confirm that the outlet the UPS is using is functional. You can do this by:
- Unplugging the UPS and plugging another device (like a phone charger) into the same outlet.
- Observing if the device powers on.

3. If the Outlet is Non-Functional

If the outlet does not work, it is likely dead. To address this:
- Use an extension cord to connect the UPS to another working outlet in the office.
- Ensure the extension cord is rated for the power draw of the UPS to prevent overloading.

4. If BOTH UPS 1 and UPS 2 are Beeping

If both UPS units are out, it is likely an issue with the power circuit connected to the server rack.
Check for:
- Tripped breakers in the circuit panel.
- Signs of power disruption in other nearby devices.

General Notes

Avoid disconnecting critical devices (Gateway, NVR, or PoE switch) unnecessarily.
Document any troubleshooting steps taken and report them to the IT administrator.
If unsure at any point, escalate the issue to the designated technical support personnel.
